• The Special Session "Recognition of Non-Prototypical Emotion from Speech - The final frontier?" took place at the 4th International HUMAINE Association Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction 2009 (ACII 2009), IEEE, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 10.-12.09.2009.
  
  A number of invited talks served as basis to initiate a panel discussion on dealing with non-prototypical emotion as the "final frontier" towards reliable real-life application of engines. We would like to thank all the panelists and participants for a very fruitful session and discussion.
  
  The target audience of this session were researchers working on analysis of emotion in a broad sense, and in particular individuals working on recognition of emotion from speech. Further researchers interested in application of analysis technology will have substantial interest in effects of non-prototypicality.
  
  

Welcome to the Special Interest Group Emotion Recognition from Speech.

The ambition of this group is to provide latest news and discussion related to acoustic and linguistic analysis of the speech signal in search of affective cues. Further, we aim to support, initialize, and organize events helping to advance current research and bring together people working in the field.

In the near future we will announce further new activities and introduce tools and data of your potential interest. The group focus is sought in (but not limited to) the following areas:

• Recognition of emotion from acoustic parameters
• Recognition of emotion from linguistic parameters
• Recognition of non-linguistic vocalisations (such as e.g. laughter)
• ASR of emotional speech
• General recognition of paralinguistics from speech
