Telecom ParisTech, School of the Institut Mines Telecom and founding member of ParisTech, is hiring an associate professor within its Signal and Image Processing Department. The position is open to research applicants in two possible areas: · “Affective Computing”, within the Multimédia group (MM/TSI), · “3D Computer Graphics”, within the Image Processing and Understanding group (TII/TSI). the deadline is September 15th 2012.

Faculty Position in Affective Computing or Computer Graphics Signal and Image Processing Department Telecom ParisTech A. General Description. Main Objectives: Research, Teaching, Stature Telecom ParisTech, School of the Institut Mines Telecom and founding member of ParisTech, is hiring an associate professor within its Signal and Image Processing Department. The position is open to research applicants in two possible areas: • “Affective Computing”, within the Multimédia group (MM/TSI), • “3D Computer Graphics”, within the Image Processing and Understanding group (TII/TSI). In both cases, the position will be located at the Information Processing and Communication Laboratory (LTCI), a joint research unit between CNRS and Telecom ParisTech. Applicants are expected to provide an outstanding academic research record and will have to advise PhD thesis, supervise engineers and post-docs while being actively involved in funded projects. The teaching activities will take place in the engineer and master level tracks at Telecom ParisTech. Affective Computing Profile Contact: Catherine Pelachaud (catherine.pelachaud@telecom-paristech.fr) Research The applicant must have a PhD in affective computing, artificial intelligence, cognitive science or 3D animation. S/he should have an outstanding publication records in high level international journals and conferences. The applicant should have strong expertise in one or several of the following topics: • Human-machine interaction • Human-agent dialog model • Emotion model • Embodied conversational agent • Socio-emotional model from human and social sciences The applicant will have to carry research in the emerging research domain of social and affective computing with the aim to define human-agent interfaces where emotions and social relationships are taken into account: • Modeling of socio-emotional agents • Modeling of cognitive agents • Modeling of socio-emotional humans-agents relationships • Modeling of multimodal behaviors Teaching The applicant will have to teach courses within the Signal and Image Processing Department (in particular to supervise projects but also to teach basic courses in signal processing and computer vision). S/he will be able to create new courses on topics related to affective and social computing. S/he is required to create courses and pedagogical tools for courses at undergraduate and master level, and in joint Master program with Paris Universities (eg, Master M2-IFL). C. 3D Computer Graphics Profile Contact: Tamy Boubekeur (tamy.boubekeur@telecom-paristech.fr) Research The applicant must have a PhD degree in computer science or applied mathematics, with an outstanding background in computer science and solid skills in mathematics. International experience is welcome. The applicant should also have an outstanding publication records, at the highest level of computer graphics and/or computer vision. Her/his scientific expertise is expected to be in one or several of the following topics: • Computer Animation, Physically-based or Expressive Animation, Fluids, Crowds, Human Motion • Image Synthesis, Real Time Rendering, Realistic Rendering, Expressive Rendering, GPU Programming • Computational Photography, 3D Vision 3D, Volume Graphics, Stereo graphics, Image Manipulation, Medical Imaging • Geometric Modeling, Processing, Analysis, Computational Geometry • Massive 3D Data Sets, Scientific Visualization, 3D Interaction Teaching The applicant must be able to create new lectures at Master level, on cutting-edge topics, being in synergy with existing lectures in the different visual computing fields at Telecom ParisTech. At the beginning, the new professor will be invited to participate to the 3D Computer Graphics course, the Computer Vision course and the Human-Computer Interaction course. There will be also opportunities to teach in joint Master programs with Paris Universities. D.
