About Me

Hello, I am a M.Sc. student in the Computer Science Department at the University of Augsburg, Germany. My key research interests in Humaine are:

    • Utilizing 3d computer graphics for rendering believable emotions of virtual humans
    • Coordination and simulation of social navigation behaviors, postures, gestures and mimics
    • Innovative input interfaces for controlling and interacting with virtual agents

Projects

_anim - A Character Animation Engine

_anim is a state of the art animation engine, which can render and animate MPEG4 like characters. Its key features are:

      • Advanced real-time rendering using vertex and pixel shaders
      • Geometry modifications like skeletal-subspace-deformation and target morphing can be performed either on the CPU or GPU
      • Several interpolation techniches are provided (Linear, Cubic, Polynomial)
      • A complete path-finding framework
      • An exporter plugin for discreets 3ds max

_agents - An Interface for Controlling Virtual Agents

_agents is a generic agent interface, which can be used for coordination and simulation of social navigation behaviors, postures, gestures and mimics. Its key features are:

      • Can be integrated with almost any animation engines, regardless they support features like animation blending or not
      • Can be used for controlling agents with input devices or by social theories concurrently
      • Can be used as a non-interactive player as well
      • By design application independent, because works only on relative information
      • Uses an extensible/open perception model

Garden of Agents - A Testbed for dynamic social group behaviors

The Garden of Agents is a virtual beergarden application, we use as testbed for dynamic social group behaviors based on the _agents interface and _anim engine as well. Currently, the social theory behind all agents is Robert Bales' Interaction Process Analysis, but we are working on on other to mix them up. Additionally, we are going to improve the interactivity by controlling an agent with non-standard input devices like a beat pad.
