Key research interests: There is evidence to suggest that neuromodulation is inherently responsible for giving rise to emotions in natural agents and that emotions consequently modulate the behaviour of the agent. By isolating and studying mechanisms such as neuromodulation, theories can arise as to what emotions are and the functionality that they provide. I explore the functionality provided by neuromodulation when applied to self-organising spiking neural networks. I use a bottom-up approach with the intention of eventually using the artificial neural networks in robotic agents. |
