Jonghwa Kim is an associate professor of the Department of Applied Computer Science at the University of Augsburg. He received the BS and MS degrees in electronic engineering from the Kyungwon University, Korea, in 1992 and 1994, respectively, and the diploma in sound engineering and the PhD degree in communication engineering from the Technical University of Berlin in 1999 and 2003, respectively. In 2002, he joined the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Augsburg, Germany, where he received in 2010 his Habilitation degree (Dr. habil., Venia Legendi) in Computer Science. He has been involved in the European ICT/IST projects HUMAINE, CALLAS, and METABO as the leader of the physiological emotion recognition team. He has served on number of technical conference committees and contributed as a reviewer for the IEEE Transactions on the pattern analysis and machine intelligence, IEEE Transactions on signal processing, IEEE Transactions on multimedia, IEEE Journal of Intelligent Systems, Journal of UMAUI, etc. His current research interests include intelligent signal processing, emotion recognition, pattern classification, biomedical signal analysis, multisource data fusion, and affective human-robot interface.
